First Night is the country’s oldest and largest New Year’s arts festival and Sandwich is having its first annual this year!
Sandwich Community Television and The Sandwich Chamber have come together to co-sponsor this exciting, uplifting and joyful occasion on New Year’s Eve 2012 with light, laughter and celebration.
There will be sights you have never seen on Main Street in Sandwich–all family friendly and alcohol free. We now have over 25 artists that have come forward to perform on New Year’s eve in the village of Sandwich–oh what a night! Buy a button and join in the festivities that will include a Revelers Parade! First Night is going to be a festival for the arts with music and beautiful creations, a snippet of the world of art brought here to the village of Sandwich.
First Night Sandwich 2013 will be held on New Year’s Eve December 31, 2012, from 4 – 9 pm. The celebration is the coming together of residents, visitors, artists and businesses for a fun, diverse and safe New Year’s Eve. Highlights include a non-alcoholic Family Festival of multi-cultural activities with mask-making workshops, puppeteers, storytellers, face painting, magicians and more; a vibrant Mardi Gras like procession down Main Street with costumed revelers and spectators will start at 6 pm, and a Grand Finale Countdown extravaganza at the conclusion of the evening’s festivities.
Cape Cod artists present their works in venues throughout the Village area. Outdoor venues including ice sculptures, store front performances, street performers such as jugglers and mimes, and exhibits such as the Resolution Wall, are free and accessible by the general public. Indoor venues are by admission only with the purchase of a First Night Sandwich Button. Performances generally last 30-40 minutes and start on the hour to allow folks to move between venues. Buttons can be purchased on line here for $10 Adults, and $6 Children ages 3 – 12 years- old. Buttons are also available at various banks, restaurants, and retail outlets in Sandwich. Performances will last 25-35 minutes and start on the hour to allow folks to move between venues.
First Night Sandwich is a non- alcoholic family and community celebration of arts and culture on New Year’s Eve in the community of Sandwich. First Night Sandwich will be joining the First Night, Inc Family of over hundreds of First Night celebrations around the world.
First Night, Inc. as a tradition has produced the First Night Boston Festival of the Arts since 1976, when a group of local artists and residents first organized a celebration offering an alternative to traditional New Year’s Eve revelry.
First Night Sandwich will fulfill, in part, the programming elements required to obtain the cultural district designation for Village of Sandwich. It occurs at the conclusion of Holly Days, a natural extension of the marketing opportunities inherent with Sandwich’s holiday season promotions.
First Night Sandwich is a branded, well recognized event that has a proven track record in similar locations throughout New England and the United States and right here on Cape Cod. First Night Sandwich draws upon Sandwich’s unique ability to inspire a close-knit community to rally behind activities that appeal to multi-generations. First Night Sandwich will be a showcase for the town’s talented professional and amateur artists who are always seeking new opportunities to engage the community.
